Another BigTalk:
Jim, Jupiter FL: We've yet to hear a peep from Verizon about subscribers to its Express network. Since that probably means there are not that many so far, what do you think they are doing wrong? Are they too focused on enterprise applications vs. consumer?

Andrew Seybold: I agree that it is funny that we have not heard a word--we have heard from NTTDoCoMo, KDDI, SK Telecom, TK Telecom and LG--but not from a single US carrier--not Verizon, not AT&T, not Cingular, nor voice stream--means to me that data take up is slow--what are they doing wrong--they are just getting started--they need to modify their pricing and they need to get their field folks trained--all of which takes time. I am not worried and expect that Sprint's launch in August will put a LOT of pressure on Verizon and the other carriers too--see this week commentary on my site.

Anybody have any idea what Seybold is hinting at when he talks about content providers subsidizing rollout of 1XEVDO?

<however I believe that the ONLY way a wireless operator is going to be able to justify upgrading to either technology--Flariou or EV-DO is if a content provider steps in and helps finance the network upgrade--some really interesting stuff is going on in this area at the moment so stand by >
