Reading what was in Truman's mind decades before you were born? I think it's more reasonable to think he wanted primarily to end the war as quickly as possible. It had been going on for years at great cost of life. At that time and in his position, that had to have been the most important thing in his mind, I think. It would have been the most important consideration for almost anyone at that place and time. Why seek to claim he had a less admirable motive?
