Rambus Sees Declining Profits

Reversing last quarter’s trend, Rambus Inc. today reported increasing revenue with decreasing profits.

The company posted net income of $5.9 million, or 6 cents per share, for its fiscal Q3, ended June 30. This is an improvement on $3.7 million, or 4 cents per share, in the same quarter a year ago, but down from $6.7 million, or 7 cents per share, in the previous quarter. Revenue increased 2 percent from the previous year’s like-period and 1 percent from the previous quarter to $23.7 million.

Royalties decreased sequentially for RDRAM memory and memory controllers, but increased for SDRAN and DDR. Total royalties for the quarter were $22.2 million, up 12 percent over the same period last year and up 2 percent from the previous quarter.

Litigation costs actually increased to $2.4 million, up from $1.6 million in the prior quarter
