Perhaps... but he hasn't told them to 'shove it' either.

He's studiously ignored, or danced around the issue.

So, until proven otherwise, I'll continue to assume that politicians are motivated by political calculations.

Exactly. The SEC tends to subpoena a wide range of personal documents including tax returns, bank statements, etc...
