Those "managed earnings" have troubled many people. I think that's why they're sometimes mentioned when people are talking about suspect accounting practices, and I'm sure that's part of the reason for some of their decline this year. Hopefully (for them) their efforts toward more transparency that the began in March will continue and lead to less concern among their investors and analysyts as well.

If you have access to Schwab's Velocity, on their instant news you'll find a copy of a letter to employees from the CEO regarding accounting practices and GE. I'd copy it for you here, but I can't cut and paste from their site. The letter attempts to reassure employees that they're not a simmering Enron or Worldcomm with accounting issues like them.

About the lighter revs, I don't know what to think. A week after they reported last time, JPM made their numbers on lighter revs and they rallied instead of declined. However detailed GE's report is, if the analysts want to hang them tomorrow I'm sure the report will give them plenty of rope to do it with. <g/ng>
