Curbstone,

I couldn't decifer a 10Q SEC filing to save my life.

The good news is that you're not alone. The bad news is that the 10K is much, much worse than the 10Q. That's because the 10K addresses a lot of information not addressed in the 10Q.

Can you recommend an elementary, easy to understand introduction to reading and applying that information to stock selection?

First, I need to make something clear. My take is that the SEC filings will probably be used 95% of the time to determine if a company meets your criteria. Only about 5% of the time you spend curled up in your most comfortable chair with an SEC filing will be spent with regard to the stock as opposed to the company. Others may disagree.

Having said that, I'd like to think there are some good books or websites about that. I'm not familiar with them so hopefully others can help out. There are tons of publications that address financial statements, which of course are an important part of the SEC filings.
