On page 105, The World Book Encyclopedia, 1990:

By 1880 there were about 24,000 Jews in Palestne. At the same time, Palestine Arab population grew rapidly. By 1914, the total population of Palestine stood at 700,000. About 615,000 Arabs, and 85,000 were Jews

PS It does say how many arabs were there at the end of Ottoman rule, perhaps no census were ever taken...At any rate it is clear that overwhelming number of Arabs as well as Jews are migrants from other lands at the beginning of the century and thereafter
