Well, I will certainly be abandoning my short positions long before Dow 4000.

I never had any intention of going short anything--[EDIT : prior to 1998] I considered it reckless and highly speculative--irresponsible gambling-- to sell short.

But in the same interview with Bartiromo, Templeton advised being short--an extraordinary position for him to take. He has been long something or another since about 1940--maybe earlier. I have never heard him tell people to be short, though he himself may have held short positions (I would not know).
