Actual, as I am quite familiar with their products, I know that is a very small subset of a system. But you do point out an ongoing issue, fire sales on spare parts at 5% of OEM prices. At a 95% discount, you can't beat it, so buy it. Of course, that's what I thought when I bought LU at $5.00 in March/April only to watch it go to less than two bucks.

Then, there's the next add for an Applied Materials P-5000 Mark II for $400,000.00. Now there is a ten year old product going for about 1/2 of the original price. So their system's price actual has held up quite well, better than my BMW 740IL. My 1997 BMW is worth about 1/3 the original price.

Good luck to all.

Stan

WaferTech Selects Applied Materials' Total Support Package to Optimize Production Performance of Equipment
Comprehensive Program Provides All Maintenance and Spare Parts for Specific Applied Materials' Systems While Improving Productivity
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 12, 2002-- Applied Materials, Inc. announced that WaferTech, LLC has purchased its Total Support Package(TM) (TSP) to optimize the performance of Applied Materials' DPS Metal Etch Centura® and Implant systems at WaferTech's Camas, Washington, fab. Under the TSP program, customers outsource all system maintenance and spare parts for specified systems to Applied Materials' expert service teams. WaferTech is a dedicated chip foundry owned by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) that provides manufacturing services to global semiconductor companies.

KC Hsu, WaferTech's director of Equipment Engineering, said, "A strong relationship with Applied Materials will be extremely valuable in achieving our ongoing production goals, both in system operation and cost control. The Total Support Package further enhances our capabilities by increasing productivity as we continue to ramp our latest generation of advanced technologies." WaferTech projects that the TSP will significantly improve productivity and provide a lower, more predictable cost structure for the operation of Applied Materials equipment.

The Total Support Package covers all the service and parts needed to operate and maximize the productivity of Applied Materials' systems. Since 1999, over 25 fabs around the world have implemented Applied Materials' TSP program covering more than 530 Applied Materials systems.

"The TSP enables our customers to outsource their complex service and support tasks so they can focus on their core chipmaking business," noted David J. Fried, corporate vice president and general manager of Applied Materials' Customer Productivity Support(TM) Business Group. "This collaboration with WaferTech clearly demonstrates the advantages of using our combined resources to continuously improve system performance while helping to control costs and enabling the fast ramp required to support rapidly changing business conditions."

Founded in June 1996, WaferTech is the first dedicated integrated circuit (IC) foundry in the United States. As a dedicated foundry, WaferTech is solely committed to manufacturing the integrated circuits (ICs), or chips, of its customers. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), creator and world leader of the dedicated IC foundry industry.
