Hard for the shooter to know--I'm always surprised by my inability to pick others' favorites among my snaps. The director really liked this one:proofsheet.com Of course many I thought were top picks never made it to the final cut, and discussing them confirmed yet again how important good editors are! As photographers we are often way too close to our work, and see in our images what others don't. I like to set aside my personal negatives for a while after making them. Returning to them to decide which should be printed after some time has elapsed often helps me strip off the circumstances under which the photo was made, clearing some of the "personal haze" and making for a tighter edit. Doesn't work every time time, I'm still in love with some pictures that are complete bombs to others. But what do they know. (g)has the show opened? Harlem Song is presently in previews. Official opening is in early August, after which time reviews will come out, and if they're what I think they may be, then tickets will go like hotcakes. If I were buying a ticket, I'd do it as soon as possible, in order to secure a good seat before the reviews come out:ticketmaster.com I'd avoid the front ten rows of the Orchestra (first floor) because those seats are too close for full impact, and I'd also completely avoid the Upper Mezzanine (third floor) because those seats are way too high for full effect. Front row center Lower Mezzanine (second floor) is in my opinion the best seating in the house, providing a close yet panoramic view of the entire show at all times. My second choice would be 11th row Orchestra, dead center.
