I'm just trying to point out here (again) that options are not "given for free" as some here suggest. They are in lieu of pay....

Then you are in agreement with Warren Buffet. Warren also goes on to conclude that because they are given in lieu of pay, that they should be expensed as pay (or compensation) on the income statements.

Which, by the way, is the reason why the gain is taxed as income. It is the GAIN that is given in lieu of pay.
