They could try, but I doubt they would succeed because the market for an an overall mix ASP overall of $350 plus would be well below the 130mu market of today. I suspect intel will try to manage the mix to maximize revenue and profits (earnings per share). Raising the price so significantly would also invite others into the game even with inferior products, so it would be a very bad move in the long term.

re: "going vertical"

Intel had to go vertical to move the market, but it's not clear AMD is large enough to make the investment required.
