Duke, It seems to me that we just had a huge consolidation in the joining of CPQ/HP, so now it is going to stop?? I do not think so. If AMD starts to make mobos it risks alienation of current buyers, however they are going to fall prey to dell anyway. The big problem is that dell has no-one to stop them befoe they reach total control of the wintel market, since the others will not copy the dell model, then the dell model will run them off the road. Sure some will cling to buying models via the chain, but they will be a smaller %, look at how Apple died with the only thing killing them was pricing.
