Bush promised more than a balanced budget. He promised continuing budget surpluses. He said it was the people's money but he didn't tell the boomer generation it was their social security benefits.

Bush did promise a balanced budget&vibrant economy.Overpromising is a risky business,IMHO.

That was before 9/11. After 9/11 he told the American people that we have a long and difficult but necessary fight on our hands and that there would be many sacrifices made by all Americans. It's a good thing the WWII generation were able to rise to their challenges instead of whining like a bunch of babies about how bad they had it. It is truly shameful the lack of personal strength, courage and integrity of the American left.
