Hi E,

That was a good article by Ornish. He makes more sense to me than the NYT Sunday Magazine did:

The solution is not to go from simple carbohydrates to pork rinds and bacon, but from simple carbohydrates to whole foods with complex carbohydrates like whole wheat, brown rice, and fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes in their natural forms.

These foods are naturally high in fiber, which slows their absorption, preventing a rapid rise in blood sugar. Fiber also fills you up before you eat too many calories, whereas you can eat large amounts of sugar without feeling full. Best of all, these foods contain at least 1,000 substances that have anti-cancer, anti-heart disease and anti-aging properties.

And did you catch this? It makes Reagan's attempt to classify ketchup as a vegetable seem benign:

(including places where we were told that gravy is a beverage)

I don't know if you remember the first all beef franks but they were nasty. Wife #1 went on Weight Watchers and bought some beef franks. For her it was fish night so when we sat down to dinner I had two lousy franks and she had a lobster tail. Things never did get right between us after that.

Wife #2 did the Weight Watchers and became a food "expert". One day I made a salad, 2 kinds of lettuce, carrot slices, low fat dressing. I went to add 4 olives and she told me if I added the olives I might as well have a Quarter Pounder with Cheese. Salad? Quarter Pounder with Cheese? I made it really healthy and got the fries and shake too.
