Jewish father of six slain at Toronto pizzeria
By THE JERUSALEM POST INTERNET STAFF

A Jewish father of six was stabbed to death early Sunday outside a pizzeria owned by Israelis in Toronto, police and media reports said.

The victim, who is not further identified pending notification of relatives, went to the King David Pizzeria after midnight with his son to celebrate his 49th birthday, witnesses told Israel Radio.

Two skinheads carrying a long knife entered the restaurant, trying to provoke the owner and customers, witnesses were quoted as saying. As they left they encountered the victim, with a kippa and a beard, and stabbed him in the back, the witnesses said.

Medics failed to resuscitate the man.

Toronto Police Sgt. Dan Taylor confirmed the stabbing and that the victim died. "There was a stabbing involving a gentleman who from all appearances is Jewish, right in front of a pizza place," Taylor told the radio. "He is deceased."

He said police were still investigating the motive.

"As far as Neo-Nazism or anything like that, we will have to wait until makes a decision on that," Taylor said.

Israeli consul denied a seat on National Airlines as a 'security risk'

The Jerusalem Post Internet Staff
Jul. 14, 2002

A National Airlines pilot refused to let Israel's Consul-General in New York Alon Pinkas board a US domestic flight on Thursday, a newspaper reports today.

"I don't care what you do, he will not get onto my plane," the pilot is quoted to have told security personnel at the San Franciso airport, as Pinkas sought to board a flight to New York.

After being told the diplomat would be coming on board, the pilot responded by screaming that he was afraid Pinkas' presence would endanger all the other passengers.

The pilot added that he would refuse to fly the plane if Pinkas came on board, the Yediot Aharonot daily says.

Pinkas asked to be booked on a different flight with Continental Airlines, the newspaper said.

"It appears to be the case of one stupid guy and not a systemic problem," Pinkas said.

The US State Department is investigating.

The Foreign Ministry said it would file a formal complaint with National Airlines and demand that the pilot be disciplined.
