Coca-Cola Will Account for Employee Stock Options as an Operating Expense

Three thoughts come to mind:

1. Employee stock options are insignificant to KO, so the change in policy has almost no effect on it.

2. Until just this week, KO accounted for options the same way high tech companies do; why do the media and liberal politicians berate the high tech companies' practices, but heap praise on KO and Warren Buffet? (hint: WB is a big DemocRAT supporter).

3. If the practice is adopted by all and options expire worthless and out of the money, as many options that already have been issued by high tech companies will, the issuers' expensing them when issued will result in the need for a commensurate earnings adjustment in the future. No doubt the liberal class action trial lawyers and DemocRAT lawmakers already are licking their chops over the next bite at the apple.
