<<I disagree Cyber, Gore lives and breathes every waking day to be President.>>

Absolutely true, as it was for Nixon, also. The difference was that Nixon's desire was the result of one of the most profound geopolitical visions in American history, driven by patriotism; while Gore's is simply driven by a lust for personal power as an end itself.

What you are saying is that he may be STUPID enough to take that sacrificial lamb roll in '04. I don't question that he is a very stupid man, but I think, as I said, he will get better advice, and sit it out...

Here's a scenario that might emerge:

For union support, the public-sector unions will dominate. They would be attracted by Hillary. Dick Gephardt has wanted to retire from the House ever since he figured out how old he'll be before the Dems get even an outside chance of getting control again. 2002 and 2004 are Republican walks in the House, and "Little Dick" knows that (though, of course, he's not talking publicly about it).

Call it the "Sacrificial Lamb Scenario", a very old practice in politics.

So you get private-sector union support with Gephardt, as the second on the ticket, and the debts to the American left paid off with Hillary as a presidential candidate. The ticket gets about 37% of the popular vote, and wins 8 to 10 states. "Little Dick" gets to retire from the job he hates. and Hill gets to build credentials for a decade later, just in case there's any real left wing opportunity then...
