A couple of years ago, I held USPIX (2x short OTC) for several months. There were substantial losses even though the Nasdaq was flat for the period. It looked like it didn't do very well in capturing the days where there were big moves. If I go short again, I plan to stick with 1x funds. Here is a link to a message I sent at that time.

augie,
I agree with AB's reply to you. I also have used the Profunds 2x inverse and regular and Rydex Ursa straight inverse. Unless you time it right and hit the direction right you can be hurt. If you miss the direction you're toast 2x as fast. If you have to sit tight and wait for the move to occur, the 2x funds slip, and your price deteriorates. Check this link out.

Augie, take a pill, dude. They are good as gold (well, until gold starts its next run <G>).

I don't think it is as good an idea to use Pro-Funds as a long term holding. I believe it is much better served as a swing trading vehicle. I've been doing swings of several days to several weeks with them this year, and that account is up nearly 200% for 2002. If it was just buy and hold, it would be up only about 1/4 that.
