The systematic violence of Al-Gamaa was summarised by the EOHR as follows: a) The Al-Gamaa Al-Islamyia in Manshiat Nasser has prohibited the Christians there from performing their religious rituals in public. They are also prohibited from turning on the tapes of the Coptic mass in their homes if the sound can be carried outside. When, nearly 2 years ago, some Christians in the village tried to renovate their church by removing the old and worn tiles and replacing them with new tiles, members of Al-Gamaa Al-Islamyia attacked the workers, forced them under threat of arms to abandon the renovation and then went on to smash some of the church's windows and doors. At the same time, the Al-Gamaa forced a number of Christians to make donations to it to build a new mosque in the village. b) The Al-Gamaa Al-Islamyia has also prohibited the Christians in the village from holding any public celebrations of social events such as weddings. Their children are exposed to psychological harm in the primary school at the village by the children of families belonging to the Al-Gamaa. This includes making the Christian religion and Christian children's books the object of ridicule and insults. c) Those Christians who disobey the commands of the Al-Gamaa Al- Islamyia are exposed to the punishment of breaking the right arm and the 2 legs, with the aim of making them a "living" example to others. jubileecampaign.co.uk
