Absolutely.
A spy is a very different sort of person from one who simply embraces communism, which certainly could appeal to an idealist who didn't have a good grasp of human nature. If I didn't know what people were like, I might think communism was a good system. But thinking communism is a good system and wanting to over throw the US government is one leap, and being a communist who is into spying activity is another leap. People are all to leapy, when it comes to conclusions, and what follows what logically, imo.
