I did not know that so many aliens were made to register and state their political beliefs. I found that interesting.

The Alien Registration Act passed by Congress on 29th June, 1940, made it illegal for anyone in the United States to advocate, abet, or teach the desirability of overthrowing the government. The law also required all alien residents in the United States over 14 years of age to file a comprehensive statement of their personal and occupational status and a record of their political beliefs. Within four months a total of 4,741,971 aliens had been registered.

A lot of this is the messenger versus message thingie.

I admit to having difficulty finding messages of value in hysterical presentations. Perhaps that's a failure to differentiate on my part. Perhaps it just an instinctive reaction against aligning myself with those who don't seem to be thinking straight. Perhaps it's simple bigotry against emotional people. For whatever reason, I definitely devalue messages that are presented with wild eyes and screaming voices. I realize there's risk in that, but it's probably pretty small. Then again, there's Conspiracy Theory, which played once again on TV today...

I hope to be able to offend, er, respond, with more on this after this somewhat hectic weekend is over.

I'm glad you're having such a nice visit with your daughter.
