Gottried,
I have decided some things in the last two weeks.
#1 buy and hold does not work with individual stocks and probably not with funds either. Even in ltbh, funds must be actively managed.
#2 Most managers dont know how to manage and most individual dont do a good job either
#3 When you find folks with a strategy that seems to work over time, most of the time, perhaps it can be adapted to ones needs.
#4 So i continue to be ltbh with certain modifications based on market timing(if of course i have the balls to implement it).
a. Out of the market on zeevs next call(1500-1550 early in late july/early august.
b. relax out of the market until the next call
b. back in at september/october lows on zeevs call and concentrate on carys 8 stocks as a core tech position. To that i would add TXN which gets cudos everywhere including Glickenhaus, and jdsu who i believe will have a bright future.
c. trade the qqqs in between these periods for fun with tight stops based on zeevs short term daily projections. 60% of the trades should work out. He is a wonder with that and the qqq offer a way to participate with less risk.
d. Realize that the risk is lost opportunity if out at 1500 and the market never goes back down. But even if that happens there will be other major zeev calls to follow in the future.
e. With retirement funds go to cash on the next call and play the international markets on the days of late day US moves for an annual return of 15% or so. OR High yield fixed incomce cds, gnmas, treasuries
f. Good news about losses is that capital gains in taxable accounts will be tax free for some time.

Am i selling out at the bottom and making a fundamental mistake? Perhaps it will turn out that way. It will just be a continuation of my track record. But if out and never back in at least i will be able to retire(barring runaway inflation i guess) in comfort and sleep better at night. Too many of us have not been sleeping well. We have already demonstated our courage by hanging in so long. Wish i had done this much earlier. mike
