Jennifer Warnes seemed to be most successful with the duet -particularly "Up Where We Belong" w/Joe Cocker & "Time of My Life" w/Bill Medley - both movie soundtracks and both good songs.

That makes me think of Gene Shallit's comment one time - Olivia Newton John teamed up with ELO on the soundtrack to a movie she starred in (don't recall the name). Anyway, Gene said it was fine to do a joint album but please don't feel it necessary to put a movie around it! It was a bad, bad movie :)

Turns out he aspired to be a singer but lacked Dylan's distinctive talent for singing. ; )

Though he does have his own distinct style; it's just not been as listenable. For me, his songs have always taken on a new life when in the hands of a good interpreter - Judy Collins, Rita Coolidge, Pearls Before Swine, and especially Jennifer Warnes' album of his songs. And Jeff Buckley's versoion of "Hallelujah" is beautiful. However, I do think in his most recent CD's his recordings stand up much better.

And in the area of hot singers, my favorite from the early 70's was Chi Coltrane:
