The experience of the last 12 months is clear. We can't wait until terrorists commit mass murder before expelling them. Profiling is the only effective tool that law enforcement has to work with.

The FBI knows about 100 possible terrorists in the US. Why are they allowed to remain? Is it worse to deport a few thousand (potentially) innocent people, or allow tens or hundreds of thousands of innocents to be killed?

The next big terror attack will no doubt lead to wholescale incarceration of Muslims, similar to post Pearl Harbor and the Japanese.

It makes a lot more sense to avoid that scenario through preventative measures, such as profiling.
