I don't check Tom's much anymore since the quality has gone down the tubes IMO, but I just checked and noticed this 'summary' for an article:

Second Hand Smoke -
RE: Stop Smothering AMD - Part II

And so the flames came. Predictable. Maybe I should apologize? Maybe some people just don't get it? Did AMD blow its one brilliant chance at greatness with Athlon, and did it do so at a time when Intel was in sleep mode? Are AMD marketing folk more comfortable in the world of the 'fanboy' than in the bigger markets of the corporate world and Tier One OEMs? Sure, Athlon won the battle. The jury is out on Hammer. But, does AMD have the courage to act like a champion instead of an underdog?

I read the "Part I" and it was so bad I didn't even bother to read "Part II". But that last (bolded) line in the summary is key in my opinion. If AMD is going to continue to undercut Intel pricing for comparably perceived processors, then they are going to miss out on a lot of mindshare/revenue/credibility that could be had. The old adage "you get what you pay for" applies in the world of perception, and AMD is currently perceived as cheaper than Intel.

All IMO of course.
