That is not true. The growth of cellular phone services wasn't the problem.

You are right about the importance of cheap though.

The problem was the rotten marketing by Vodafone and other service providers who charged $3 a minute and $1600 for a phone, plus monthly charges, plus signup fee, plus roaming excesses, plus random international charges. They killed the goose which was all set to lay the golden eggs.
