Jim- maybe most of those investment losses are unrealized

Sure, in the past, they pretended their portfolio was in good shape. But is this still acceptable with Enron, Worldcomm, etc.?

You have been in a good mood lately, did you get promoted at Costco??

Dear Jim:

Perhaps they simply stopped depreciating their plant. They probably stated "Hey it still produces product, so why depreciate it until it wears out?". And of course the typical "We have converted all employees to a tiny base salary with a lot of stock options" boosting short term profits in exchange for long term pain.

They are rewriting the creative accounting manual by adding a lot of fog so that normal investors will not see the drop in true earnings, "We made lots of money (even though our book value dropped by a whole bunch)!"

There are more ways to cook the books than even AG knows. Maybe Intel will try a new one.
