The Intel quote is direct confirmation that Intel's official roadmap is H1'03.

Intel's M-Efforts
Notebook sales also have been fueled by research and marketing efforts on the part of the major computer chip makers.

While Intel's Pentium 4 (Latest News about Pentium 4) Mobile processor is its most recent product, a new Intel chip, code-named Banias and developed specifically for mobile computers, is set for release in the second half of 2003.

Robert Manetta, mobile computing spokesperson for Intel, explained to NewsFactor that in the past, the company has designed microprocessors first, then tailored them to fit on either a server (Latest News about server), a desktop PC or a laptop PC.

"This is the first chip we've produced that is designed from the bottom up to be used in mobile computing," Manetta said.


While the second half date isn't attributed directly to the Intel spokesman, his comments on Banias immediately follow the "second half" schedule, implying that he is the source of the information.
