Well the first question that pops into my mind is "are you sure you do not have an agenda in believing what you do"

First let me say this I have no intention of defending what people call the church

I believe that Roman Catholicism is a cult - you’re right about the "halo" thing. -but - these "images" had no business even being painted or posted by people who pretend to follow the bible in the first place.

Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

That was written by God Himself with his own finger. God wrote the 10 commandments Himself -Moses only prepared the tablets of stone - it is the only portion of the bible that was not written through the agent of a "man of God" yet many churches are filled with such images.

So to attempt to defend the power trips or abuses of so-called "churches" I have no interest in fact we likely agree completely.
Now as far as those who wrote the scriptures - the prophets of old - I can assure you that they were not beyond sin - even David committed both murder and adultery - but - they were very careful about presenting God's word to mankind. False prophets were stoned to death.

If you want a classic example of a book that was written actually AGAINST a man "agenda" the book of Daniel is a very good example. Daniel did not want to see happen what he predicted would happen. It was completely against what Daniel desired for Israel. Daniel was born just prior to the Babylonian captivity and spent most of his life in it. Daniel figured out that the captivity was predicted to last for 70 years by the prophet Jeremiah who had predicted the captivity along with the prophet Isaiah.

Daniel 9:2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

This is what he had read in the scrolls of Jeremiah:

Jeremiah 29:10 For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

What Daniel wanted to see happen was for his people "the holy people" to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. God told him that that would happen - BUT - God showed him a lot more than just that - in fact a lot of stuff that Daniel did not want to know or see. The destruction of temple once again and that God was returning the people to Jerusalem " to fill up the measures of their sins" Daniel was also shown that they would "cut off" the Messiah after only 3 1/2 years of preaching and reject their kinsman redeemer.

So there is an example of at least one fellow who was not that happy with what God had planned.

As far as the bible being "distorted" I agree that our English bibles are rather poor but some improvements have been made. The original language manuscripts however are very much faithful to the original autographs. These are being used to better improve the language used in English and other version but the demand for this is very low. People do not want to leave the Old King James or whatever version they are now using if they cannot see a real need for it. They cannot see a need for it unless they study the Hebrew and Greek texts - if they can study those texts then again they have no personal need for it either.

As far as the original copies being distorted they are not. Even the Roman Catholic bibles still have the verse I quoted you and many more that are utterly against their teachings - they did not eliminate any of them. A few more examples:

1Tim 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

The bible teaches that the Roman Catholic practice of forbidding marriage was from demons but they never took it out of their copies of the bible - the abstaining from meats was in contradiction to them forbidding anything but fish on Fridays and there are many more verses that prove that praying to dead "saints" etc. is idolatry and sin in the sight of God but I do not need burden you with many verses to prove that what you are presuming is not true.

I would however point out one proof that is impossible to overlook - The dead sea scrolls were found in 1948 - and within them were large portions of Isaiah and some others - when they compared those scrolls that were buried before Christ with our texts of today they had no material changes at all - so that for over 2000 years men have been copying these texts without change - why would you put forth the theory that men have indeed changed these texts. It has been archeologically proven to be a false theory.

One last word on the "twisting" or perverting of the manuscripts - many manuscripts have been kept by different people groups. The Septuagint was a translation from Hebrew to Greek of the Old Testament under the reign of Ptolemy and we still have a copy that was made 300 years before Christ - it is still extant.

So if you want to state that men have been screwing up the meaning of the Bible for centuries - we agree - if you want to say the Bible has been continuously changed by men - we disagree and the facts of science also disagree. If you want to say that the writer of the scripture wrote what they wanted to manipulate - lie and cheat their fellow men then we both know how much of it you have not read - that is just not the truth at all.

In fact look at the words of Christ:

John 13:12 So after he (Jesus) had washed their (apostle’s) feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

Jesus washed the Apostles feet to show them the Godly attitude of helping and serving others - not some kind of power trip.

Mark 10:44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.

Pyramids have never been believed to be 10,000 years old - sorry that is just not true. Adam was created 6000 years ago not 3000.
