Edit: had to make a quick trip back to WA State from Haines, AK to buy some more gold, trade out the rest of those near team PUTS and reload with LEAPS. Heading back up in a week. Whitehorse, YK...has grown exponentially since last year and sadly, so has the crime. Actually signs in part of town saying "High Crime Area". Motorhomes have been broken into in the daylight in town and some outlying campgrounds. First time in Haines, AK. Artsie/fartsie little place. A few monied people have very nice 2nd homes there. A sort of combo of townies and yuppies (even an expresso house with natural foods). AND they even have DSL service, Hey, I know where I'm moving -G- Many small towns in BC seem to turning into ghost towns. BCer's are really pi$$ed at Bush about the soft wood tariff. Plus, the pine beetle has once again reared its ugly head and destroying the pine crop. Government is shutting down 20 Forest Service Offices. As I mentioned previously, Barrick is pulling that high grade ore out of the Eskay in 2 years what Homestake was going to take 8 years to do. They are using the Bob Quinn Forest Sevice Road which was improved by a construction company that has placed a big sign there stating basically what good guys they are for doing so, yea, right. Took some pictures for you. Personal impressions; Stayed in a few big campgrounds (for laundry and internet)...retirees driving mongo motorhomes a little concerned about the market but still keeping the faith and their brokers instead of doing their own homework. It struck me as sad that these people were smiling and really don't have a clue. What's next for them in '03? Bagging groceries at Safeway? Canada seems to be biting the bullet (as you had said)and I guess the US$ to C$ is showing it, eh? Keeping my C$ and using the credit card conversion. However, I've found the same J6P mentality in Canadians as the yanks. Believing in a recovery and converting their C$ to US$. At the Costco here yesterday, waiting in the checkout line, middle aged guy discussing the market with others, saying with this fire sell he's taking money out of his kids college fund to load up on these cheap stocks!! Bought a small Honda generator so I can stay off road, in the bush for longer periods. Got some good video of moose and bears. Will send you a VHS or DVD when I edit this winter. (Klondike)Bill/WA
