Indeed they are, and I am very glad they had the sense to leave such references out of the constitution. Clearly they knew how to make them, and had made them, but knew WHEN to leave them out. Bravo. Over time we have become more and more sensible about when to leave such references out. True piety does not need the coercion of the state. In fact, do not the truly pious flourish when actually oppressed? What better test of faith. You really ought to long for oppression and a test of faith. Or someone ought to. I've read the Lives of the Saints.
