My favorite memory of that time concerned an obnoxious office manager of the timesharing sales office I worked for as a technical representative. He correctly ascertained that the market would fall (circa '73) and chose one of the most overvalued stocks (PE) to short, HP, one of our customers. Unfortunately, HP sales grew 40% in the quarter and it was one of the very few that went up in the bear market. A early lesson in SELECTION.
