Interesting that now there is no continual writeoff of "old" acquisition assets necessary for GAAP earnings, but, when and if Intel decides to writeoff some of these acquisitions the full amount of their writeoff is part of GAAP earnings. IOW, there is no longer any forced amortization, but companies would be smart to write stuff off anyway in this post-Enron era, to avoid negative scrutiny like the recent Barrons article on Intel. (which I did not read, they're gone here)

I wonder whether the analysts will begin predicting GAAP earnings in Intel's case and ignore "pro forma." Pro forma leaves a bad taste in my mouth, that's for sure.
