The world would be a much better place if those
in high places could set an example for others to emulate.

yep. that goes for me and my friends in LOW places too.
it would be nice if all of our actions always were
completely consistent expressions and demonstrations
of our highest ideals, no?

there still would be conflicts and displeasure
because of differing ideologies. but that's part of
the dynamics that powers the cosmos.

my top four filters for my political representatives...

1) philosophical alignment with natural law (as i see it of course)

2) intelligence and education/experience commensurate
with the position

3) expertise in POLITICS (this is the unfun part that
requires compromise of all sorts of things to get things
done -- needs skills in diplomacy, mediation and
negotiations)

4) some semblance of honesty, openness and responsibility
to constituents

a job applicant for burger flipper has to prove
more qualifications than a politician. our electoral
process is merely a popularity contest.

what if there were a test to pass? geeze, what a concept...
required competency. ha ha

i'm not looking for a spiritual leader or father figure.
personal moral values are going to have to be somewhat
flexible just to be able to accomplish number 3 above.

if i want a moral mentor there are plenty out there
to observe and follow. politics and moral dogma don't
mix because there are too many of us out here with
diametrically opposed moral views who share the same
governmental needs. the provision for separation of church
and state that was written into our country's guiding
documents was included because the founders recognized the
problem from past history in other governments.

changing the subject somewhat...

whenever i read your anecdotes about your experiences
with people who cheat, lie, and are completely blind
to cold hard evidence and facts i have to smile and
i think... "if the guy would step into a peyote circle
in the native american church* and ingest the cactus
that is passed around - he'd quickly see the illusory,
illusive nature of cold hard facts. there is no such
animal as an unquestionable or indisputable fact."
not that one has to ingest anything to become aware of
alternate realities and see that they're valid... but
it's a surefire way to see things differently. <vbg>
