Hello ACF Mike, BTW, I am the pinger. I knew my post to Maurice would ping either CB or you, and probably less Maurice. And so, just for kicks, using you as a proxy for WSJ, IHT, NYT;0)
<<By Asian, do you mean Chinese Asian, S. Korean Asian or Japanese Asian?>>
... I mean Confucianism, Buddhism (yes, India is Asia, even if they don't think so), Shao Ling Temple rules, Sun-tzu's 36 strategems, right vs. wrong, minimum interference, et cetera
<<Japanese Asian values>> Hopelessly deformed, having learnt the bad stuff from elsewhere and forgotten the good stuff from the source, and <<... people change>> no, people rarely change, except when they are forced to conform, and then they change back at the first opportune moment.
<<American values ... Rights ... Freedom ... saving France ... the Chinese ... Panama ... Serbo-Croat ... Big Mac>>
I would in the main agree with you, but with some issues, exceptions and amendments.
<<Rights ... Freedom>> I believe the American electorates will soon have to make up their mind on the conflicts inherent in rights vs. freedom.
<<America also has a written Constitution and a Bill of Rights, the first Amendment to which includes Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Assembly and Freedom of the Press>>
... This has not very much to do with anything, because Zimbabwe has the same pieces of paper, and Liberia copied almost word for word. Besides, the Constitution said gold is supposed to be money, or so I was informed.
In HK, our freedom ensures our rights, and our minimally taxed wallet supports our freedom. HK has the highest density of population because they choose to live here, even if they set up second homes elsewhere, by freedom of choice and movement.
<<saving France>> returning the favor, as the French helped out the Americans when it mattered a few years into American history - I have the written family history on the help rendered. Problem was, of course, that America also tried to save France in Vietnam, and extend colonial rule, against the wishes of the local electorates.
<< ... the Chinese>> Without US help, the cleansing of Japan would have taken longer, cost more, but of a more complete nature, along the lines of Carthage, and history will have moved forward more decisively, but now we will not know for sure. And with the US help, the Chinese civil war was prolonged, with millions killed, with history held in freeze motion, until the next burst of movement - I have, you guessed correctly, the written family history on the help rendered. And so it just was and will be.
<<... Panama>> The Panamanians were so appreciative that they awarded the ditch management to Li Kai Shing's Hutchison;0)
<<... Serbo-Croat>> Yes, and that will go on for a long time, until finally solved in the historically dictate way.
<<... Big Mac>> This is beginning to feel like a big dong contest. I will say that I like the product, indulge in it once per three weeks, max, because it is bad for me, as a icky DNA trait, unavoidable, in 122 countries. On the flip side of the burger and the end of the dong, how many Chinese restaurants are there? In how many countries?
