If by "those people" you mean the employee, you couldn't be further from the truth.

Get your facts straight.

I paid into the PERS system for 14 years. That wasn't sawdust they deducted from my paycheck each month.

She gets PERS, to which she DID contribute (her share was well over $100,000, not including interest over time), but not SS, which is not offered. She got no health care insurance as part of retirement. She did get a watch.;)
