Ireland made a beneficial deal with NorthAmericans
we funded plant & equipment for many new expansions of business
they lowered corporate and property taxes
they provided workers
we funded many college technical programs
a win-win situation

this was the arrangement, and my old Digital Equip Corp was typical
while I was at DEC from 1980 to 1993, I had clients in Ireland
Galway and Clonmel
almost had a trip there too, but my sleazy manager took the trip
Irish people were very grateful for the cooperation
they really lifted themselves up
many engineers, software professionals emerged
in the 1990's, Ireland had the fastest growing European economy

but I never heard of any free education
many paid-for college and Masters program students though

all was good until the tech bust, now jobs are disappearing
and they are left with a real estate bubble
esp in Dublin, where property has risen 300% since mid-1980's
