I guess I'm not quite as hostile to the idea of anonymity as you are.

I even considered using an alias on SI, but decided not to. In the past I have used an alias on dial up BBSs but that was mostly just because everyone was doing so.

The odds that anyone here was on any of those BBSs is low, but just in case I went by the handle of "Corwin of Amber".

In short, IMO the expectation should be acceptance of personal responsibility, and anonymity should be protected only for cause.

I think people should mostly be able to spout whatever nonsense they want on a place like SI as long as they don't misrepresent who they are or actually attempt to defraud people (phony news releases about penny stocks and such). I think the anonmity should not be a protection against investigation for criminal wrong doing but other then that I have no problem with it.
