I see the UN as having less credibility then the US.

You may but there are countries that consider the UN important. That's the credibility of which I am speaking. Many countries are suspicious and distrustful of our power........for good reason. During Clinton's administration, he worked thru the UN to negate some of that fear and distrust. Plus, it took the onus off of us......which I like.

Its not an American birth right to be a bull in a china closet like some would like us to think.

Its any countries right to defend itself against attack and to retaliate against its attackers. It always has been, and (if this is important to you) its also recognized by the UN.

I never said we shouldn't defend ourselves. But the most direct way is not always the best way.

We can be the bull in the china shop rather then the china because we are powerful, but anyone other country has the same right even if they do not have the same ability to exercise it.

What is the problem here? You sound like Ray. What is this power thing? For as long as you and I have been alive, we've always been capable of being the bull......so what? I am more impressed when the bull knows when to act like a bull and when to act like the china. There is a place for both in international diplomacy.
