Now let's see,.... Intel earns $0.07 this Q. Guides lower for follow-on Q. Ok, so let's multiply by four to annualize and even throw in a few pennies for the "seasonality" baloney. Darned calculator is soooo slow doing these toughies,...... What is this,..... hey, that looks like $0.30 earnings for the next year,..... how the heck can it be that low? Did I make a mistake?..... Nope, it all looks correct. Now the stock closed at $18.36, which if I divide by that $0.30 earnings figure provides a PE multiple of,....... darned,..... what the heck is wrong with this blasted calculator this time,..... surely it can't be well north of 60, can it? Hmmm, this will never wash, even with my well-trained sheep,.... er clients, ....so what's to do,...... Ok, obviously we won't be able to do our normal tap dance using 2003 PC forecasts as those traitors over at IDC are now grinding out negative predictions for 2003 PC sales like bad sausages. And we can't even trot out the old reliable "Europe/Asia/China/Mars/wherever market is still growing", as even Canuckistanian mountain goats have too many PCs. Man, this whole planet should be labelled "PC saturation is us", but that won't garner me a nice year-end bonus, so we need some REAL creativity. HMMMMM,.... where else might the sheep believe those #@%^$#@ chips could be employed ,..... eureka,.... how about geeky jewelery,..... spells-your-name-out-in-LED-splendour necklaces or microprocessor-controlled strobed ear rings,..... perhaps. Or maybe implants,..... yes, yes, I can see it now,.... improve your sex life at the snap of an imbedded button, or dial-a-smile-while-you-walk-a-mile, or ...... nahh, they would never buy into that. Or perhaps the old a-chip-in-every-refrigerator/toaster/hair dryer/can opener/toothbrush routine? Sigh.... nope, it's too shop worn. Nuts. I'm just going to have to grit my teeth and sell them the idea that the 60 PE is reasonable and that it could go to 100. Now how did I turn this darned Dell box on last time,....., "Charlotte, get in here and get this thing running for me,.... I've got to put out a new report on Intel". Best, Earlie
