Aw, come on X. There a lots of ways to deflect the question...

without lying. Just as in the "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" classic letter. No one has to slap a kid upside the head and say, "come to your senses, child!" As to kids, one of my fondest memories is of a conversation I overheard between my nephew and his friend that started with, "Do you really think there's an Easter Bunny?" It was darling conversation, which I'd have loved to have taped.

And in any, case I believe that parents who make an issue about this usually don't wait to be asked ... they can't wait to tell.

And as to kids hurting other kids ... Isn't the whole point here to make your child face reality? What is more reality than to let your child find out that kids are going to hurt other kids?
