8:43AM August Tech cut to Buy Adams Harkness -- reduced guidance (AUGT) 8.30: Adams Harkness Hill downgrades to BUY from Strong Buy after mgmt lowered Q3 guidance. Firm reduces its 2002 est to ($0.34) from ($0.03) and 2003 to $0.13 from $0.58.

8:41AM Motorola offers mixed guidance (MOT) 14.53: -- Update -- Dow Jones reporting from the call that MOT sees Q3 and Q4 EPS operating earnings of $0.05 and $0.14 vs current Multex consensus estimates of $0.04 and $0.11. However, sees revenues of $6.7 bln and $7.5 bln for these qtrs, below Multex estimates of $6.9 bln and $7.8 bln. Believes FY03 EPS of $0.45 is achievable; consensus is $0.44.

7:57AM NVIDIA lowered to Equal-Weight at Morgan Stanley (NVDA) 21.30: Morgan Stanley downgrades to EQUAL-WEIGHT from Overweight amid weak PC demand, GPU pricing pressure, and expectations for an Xbox inventory correction. Firm reduces FY03 est to $1.45 from $1.95 and FY04 to $1.65 from $2.25. Thinks stock remains attractive from long-term perspective. Price target $35.

7:41AM Metris reports EPS shortfall; not issuing guidance for remainder of year (MXT) 6.07: Reports Q2 (Jun) loss of $0.74 per share, $0.96 worse than the Multex consensus of $0.22. "Clearly we're disappointed with our results in the second quarter." The managed net charge-off rate was 15%; managed delinquency rate was 10.2% vs 9.8% in MarQ. "The Company is not issuing earnings guidance for the remainder of 2002."
