He expects the software giant to report 42 cents of Q4 earnings, on slightly more than $7 billion revenue.

I wouldn't be surprised to see MSFT do even better than that. And if they do, that could well set off a sharp rally that could last a few weeks, fueled in part by a lot of short covering. This market is way oversold, IMO.

OT: Not to belittle the damage that the scumballs running outfits like Enron and Worldcom have done to investor confidence, I still have to laugh at the politicians in DC all scrambling to make points (and $$'s and votes) by jumping on the "get tough on fraud" bandwagon. Those turkeys have ripped and gouged the American public to an extent that makes all the corporate shenanigans seem like kindergarten lunch money, yet no one really seems to care. Blows me away...
