In new construction, I'd add the conduit. Definitely not in a retrofit.

I personally believe connections (copper or glass) will continue to be the norm well into the future.

For my home office, it's the cable modem to a Linksys BERSR41 and 3 computers tied to it. My house is older than yours, no conduit either.

Wireless for the home has it's place and I will get it shortly, but not for the primary connections. I have a patio up the hill behind my house. The laptop would be nice on good days and I can't see wiring my hill! I'll probably get another Linksys product, just to keep the finger pointing to a minimum if I have inter-operability issues.

When talking to ATT Broadband (my provider) on any issues with the connection, I freely tell them I have the router. I just say I bought it as a firewall and for possible future expansion. For the most part the techs treat it as a "don't ask, don't tell" relationship.

Good luck in your "new" home.
