From Rex Crum @ Marketwatch:

Siebel Systems announced Wednesday it would cut close to 1,200 jobs and take a third-quarter charge of between $200 million and $250 million as the software maker weathers the effects of a weak information technology economy.

Tom Siebel, CEO of Siebel Systems, sounded like a man who could only throw his hands up and wonder what happened to his company: "It's difficult to express how weak (the market is)," Siebel said Wednesay, at times frustrated and upset when describing the business outlook for the company that bears his name. "The market does not look like it's going to turn up in the near term."

Siebel delivered a negative assessment for the rest of the year for Siebel Systems (SEBL: news, chart, profile), after the company delivered a third-quarter forecast that may not endear it to investors, and reported second-quarter earnings and revenue estimates that failed to meet Wall Street estimates.

Hmmm, at annual eps of $.25-$.40 and low growth, what is this investment worth? $10.45 looks a bit aggressive from here. Swung-traded SEBL the other day, worked out OK, but bailed. This sounds terrible to say, but I took a contrary view to one poster's "Tom would warn us if they were going to miss" statement - and figured some of that sentiment was baked into the share price.

SEBL issues are economy related. All boats eventually get taken down when the lake is drained...
