I'd opt for the car payment. I have never heard that excuse. Once a year for xrays is fine with me - I fear the drill more.

I had a dentist tell me 10 years. I went to another dentist and he told me 8-10 years depending on the size of the filing. Went to yet another dentist, one that I'd known for 30 years and he told me any filing that was put in when I was a child needed to come out because of the type filing it was plus, if the filing was over a certain percentage it should be replaced. In those teeth where the filings were old and took up most of the tooth, I've had to have root canals....12 in all.
