1. The particular technology is the technology that creates and enhances to "virtual" world. The printing press is an historical example. It was incredibly powerful, but it serves as a useful contrast to the power of today's and tomorrow's technology.

2. History doesn't provide much of a roadmap. It would be like asking if a study of the effects of the initial snowball will prepare us for the effects of the resulting avalanche.

3. I think the recent dot com debacle illustrates the gap between technology and the world of "business and commerce" you are so interested in. Technology provided the internet, the most advanced communication system ever produced and one that can connect the whole world. Business and commerce turned it into vehicle for self destruction, racketeering, and fraud on an incredible scale. Through it all we have been sitting here exchanging messages. The technology has become stronger and the promise greater.

4. My time frame was stated as 5 years. Business must digest the excesses of the last series of cycles. Technology has been moving forward. I think this next year will illustrate the difference between businesses that employ technology and business that develop technology. The developers will always have new customers to employ new technology. And these new customers will have new applications made possible by the developers faster, cheaper, smaller, more powerful, less power consumption.
