I wish I could remember more about what the pilots said over the loudspeaker when they were finally cleared for takeoff. I remember thinking "My, that's harsh", but the details escape me. It's also unclear to me what the passenger expected with his question. As OMD had mentioned, it was an America West flight, and a pilot had been censured for drinking on the job a couple of weeks prior. Was the passenger asking if all pilots are now routinely tested? Was he demanding a test? If the second scenario is the case, I can better understand the anger on the part of the passengers and the edge on the part of the pilots.
