That is much too strong for me. I think at the very least it waters down the powerful word "bigotry," robbing it of any necessary hate element. You might as well accuse people who vote a straight Democratic or Republican ticket every year of bigotry.

I think only a minority of the electorate votes on the basis of principles detached from their own self(ish)-interests and preferences. A great many people vote for a candidate because they feel a comfort level and a sympatico with that person, and in many cases that may relate to religion, race, or ethnicity.

You can accuse such people of superficiality in their voting criteria, but bigotry? I don't think so.
